Do you have a Degausse button on your monitor? Try it and see if it makes things better or worse.

HI,
How old is your monitor ? most of the monitors have a button on them for degausing it is different from one to another, sometimes you have to press the MODE or SELECT button on your monitor.
Yes, this recently happened to me. Hmmm is right on. The built in degausser is for minor magnetic buildup. Direct contact from a magnet is too much for it to handle. I degaussed probably fifty times in a few days waiting an hour in between but the colored blotches were still there. I called around to local tv and computer repair shops and they all wanted $20 to use their degaussing coil. The closest place was a national computer store. They used: Realistic (Radio Shack) GH Powered Video/Audio tape eraser cat# 44-233A cost is $36.99. It took 10 minutes and the screen never looked better. A little know how and the "right" tool... Hope this helps... ck

Try this (it is not a joke).
Get hold of that magnet again. Place it near the screen BUT NOT TOUCHING SCREEN and rotate it fast over the whole screen area. Continue this action and "very" gradually move the magnet away from the screen until you are several feet away. With luck this should help, the normal automatic deguauss clearing any minor residue.
