...faded white blotches
Weird bars and white faded blotches on screen? Happened after I changed desktop from 640 X 800 to 800 X 640. It used to start out with my mouse pointer turning into a black block with bars on it or sometimes not. But now I have lowered hardware performance for my monitor so now I just see weird bars and white faded blotches overlaying on IE pages since I mainly use my comp for internet. I have not noticed it anywhere else. So I doubt it is a driver problem I checked that out, maybe display adapter, though I could not find one for my brand online. Any other possible scenarios I'm missing? Underneath this somewhere should be a image of my screenshot. Everyone's help is welcome and appreciated.

It doesn't sound like the monitor itself to me.
Maybe a refresh rate problem.
I'd still put my money on a drivers problem. If you download a freebie called Aida32 it should tell you what drivers you need (and a whole lot of other stuff besides).

Thanks, yeah I was wondering if he was going to a higher resolution (thus making available memory a likely culprit) and noticed the resolutions were a bit odd.

Do you know how much video memory you have? Also what is the 'number of colors' setting in display properties?

sounds like you have an old computer & monitor. 10 years old maybe? Monitors don't last forever. Does it work OK if you go back to old settings?

No. The monitor is fairly new maybe 5 years old at best. But I'm running it at 64-bit color with no problems whatsoever except for those blotches. The AIDA32 solution was nice but didn't help. All I found out was my monitor brand and video adapter brand. I'm not going to really blame this on video memory just yet. Anything else that could really be responsible for this?

Checked mine on Aida, maybe a bit lighter than I thought in this area. Seemed a bit more informative though, under "Display/Windows Video" it gave the driver and a URL for the download.

I've found symmetrical screen 'impurities' are usually due to the video card and not the monitor and usually due to the video memory on the card. I'm almost certain your video memory is inadequate to display correctly at that resolution or the memory is bad.
