hey, i have an old compaq monitor, and it worked fine a while ago, but now the whole screen will sometimes tint blue. Sometimes it gets better by itself , but now and then I am able to bang it on the top and it will get better for a while (but it will happen again shortly). Does anybody know what is wrong with it and how to fix it?? Thx.

Matt,
It sounds as though the monitor is reaching the end of it's life. Assuming you've not changed your video card, it's a sure bet that the thing is about to die.
By the way... banging on it sure is good therapy, but it doesn't help the life expectancy

Matt: Sounds like the color temperture is not set properly on your monitor. This is an adjustment with the monitor. Not knowing what kind you have, see if your manual shows an adjustment called color temperature settings. It makes your white screen go from a light blue to a pink color as you adjust the color temperture. The other thing you can do is to degauss the screen on your monitor. Does your monitor provide a degauss button? Sorry, I can't be of more help. Good luck.

Joe: I did not change my video card, but i did install a 3D accelerator.
Gilbert: Hmmm. It didnt come with a manual (as I got it 2nd hand), but it is a Compaq 171FS (if that helps). And degaussing it doesnt help. :(Anymore suggestions??

Had the same prob.It was a bad connect in the cord. If i wiggled the cord at the plug where it goes into the computer it would correct the color

Dito. I've seen the same thing twice before. Both times it was the cable. I'm still using one monitor that likes to flip to a green. I just reposition the cable each time. The original owner had the monitor jambed up to the wall, forcing the cable. I believe I broke a wire inside the cable when I straightend the cable out. My fix is to find the spot where the connection returns and secure the cable there.
