The other day i was using Photoshop 5.5. All of a sudden I have these black lines smeared all over my screen. I tried restarted and shutting down the computer. Unplugging and replugging, but still no luck. It seems to have a shadow like effect when a program or a graphic is on the main screen and not minimized. I snapped a pic of my screen and sent it to my other computer and it looked perfectly fine. Anyone have any kind of solution. Something must have went bad somewhere. Thanks in advance.
Sounds like the monitor is going bad. You might try removing it from control panel and let windows redetect it or try updating the driver for it. Also, some monitors have reset buttons to kinda zap the screen back to normal after the monitor has been jarred or bumped. Make sure your monitor cable is tight too. If none of that works, take it to a friend and try it on another system. If you get the same screen output, you know it's the monitor gone bad.
Photoshop and Acrobat Reader sometime suffer from display corruption with some video cards and is likely the result of the video drivers. You may be able to download updated video drivers which may help, or consider upgrading your video card. Otherwise, the corruption usually disappears if you force a screen redraw (eg by minimizing/maximizing the window. It happens occasionally with my ATI card, but it's easily restored with two mouse clicks.
