Monitor gets static effect

My monitor (Samtron and older model) has a static look when special effect things move on screen, etc. It is white and blurry. Is it Monitor drivers, Video, or Direct X? Also, how do I tell which version Direct X I have? I have I.E. 5.5 w/Windows 95. Thank You

Do you have a menu on your monitor or a button that says "Degauss"? if so you should Degauss the screen this will stop the static sound and may clear the appearance. Do you know if your settings are 800x600? or higher. This may also affect the appearance of what you are seeing. You may have to adjust settings to get a better appearance. Windows 95 is a 16 Bit program so with my limited knowledge I would only suggest to do a few trial and error resets until the best appearance is the one you keep. I don't know how to help you on the version aspect of DirectX, as I have never checked that myself. I generally do a find on the start guide and enter the name I am looking for, or go directly to the program, as directX is part of windows it may be found in there. I am used to looking at the program going to the help file and there is usually and entry that says "About" and that tells the version of the software. Someone else will give you better info than I can on that one. Good luck

For your version of Direct X type dxdiag at the run item under start. Do you have another monitor or video card that you can try? Really would think it is a video card. You can purchase a cheap one for testing. I bought one at a computer show for one dollar. Not much but like I said "testing".

i think he meant a 2 bit program or technically 32 bit. does shutting off your monitor off(for about 10 seconds) then back on help any ,on some older monitors this was the way to degauss.

this could also be a thermistor -thermal resistor- going bad ,it's the part that degausses the monitor. cheaper these days to get a new monitor then to have the old ,out of warranty ,one repaired.

Thank You for your inputs. Again, only happens when HTML fancy things are going on, Flash programs, etc. No issue with still photos, text and the like. Does that help any?
