Hi,
I have a HP pavilion with onboard video which doesn't support DirectX 8.1, so I bought and installed a PCI video card and downloaded the latest drivers. Now when i reboot my computer, a message comes up saying: "Self Diagnosis - PC Display correct?" (or something like that) and the monitor goes into standby mode and doesn't wake up. I can get into Safe Mode but i don't know how to fix the problem. Could somebody pleeease help me! Thanks =) btw I'm running Win98.

Well first you need to let us know what model of HP Pavilion that you have. This would greatly help solve your problem. Then you go to this website

http://thenew.hp.com/country/us/eng/welcome.html

and type in the search parameters "hp pavilion video" then search for you video problem. If that does not help just put your information back up on this site and we will try to get you the information.

Go to Start>Settings>Control Panel> 2x clk: Display.
Click on the Settings tab and then on Advanced button. From the current display look for the Adapter tab, and in there, the Refresh Rate area.

You should now have a drop down box that allows you to change your monitor's refresh rate.

If the above doesn't resolve your problem, the next step is to run DirectX's DXDiag utility program. Go to Start>Run, enter: dxdiag click OK.

When in DXDiag, click on the MORE HELP tab. Here, you will see a button called OVERRIDE. There you can set an overriding refresh rate. Set the override value to a refresh rate that you know works for you. If in doubt, set it to 60hz.
