Hello! I have been trying to take my old
ROCKWELL HCF 56k PCI modem from my old compaq
and put it into a newly built computer.Compaq only supplies quick restore. I was
able to find who made my modem(CIS
technologys) after some searching and got the
drivers.I have put the old modem into the new
computer, plug and play wont detect
it!(nothing will).I used add new hardware
wizard.Using the hardware wizard and the
drivers that I downloaded and expanded into a
folder I installed the modem. Installation
was succsesful. The modem is regestered in device manager but
will not do anything, will not innitiate,
make a phonecall, make a sound,get detected
by aol, or show any activity at all.Any help on this is greatly appreciated!

Go to the Compaq site and dig up the information on your old system. On that page you will find drivers for everything you had in your old pc. Download the driver for the modem in question and transfer it to the new pc. No reason why it shouldn't work. I have a direct connection to the search page of Compaq on my site. Just go there and look for where it says Computer Support. It has links to all the major manufactures of Pc's.
ENTER_Terris WebSpace!

Reinstall modem again without removing it. This will install the Modem HCF Enumerator. Then go into control panel, modem, hilight the first installation (Probably installed on com port #2) and remove it. Copy # 2 should then work and be installed on com port #3. I have a rockwell modem that does the exact same thing every time I have to install it. No matter which computer I put it in.

I have searched that site pretty thoroughly,
some models it seems like they give the
drivers, but on mine all the want to give is
the quik restore CD, which doesn't mean
driversbut anyways i have drivers.
what do I do to get this modem work

Well I was very supprised to see that the
connexant emulator program pop-up from my
driver disk out of thin air...for what reason
i dont know...anyways i did what you told me,
though i was getting somewere but then it
didn't work! the only real progress i made
was windows recognized is as a plug and play.I also get the error message can not read
port registry or when im in device manager.Anyways any help ANYONE can give is greatly appreciated!

Give me the model number of your old Compaq. Like Compaq Presario 5352 or something like that. Or if it is another kind of Compaq. I have 2 Compaq Prolinea's. A P75 and a P90. So give me the model number and I will bring back the driver.

Now that the enumerator is installed. Go to the Control Panel, System, Device Manager and remove all modem entries. Reboot and let windows find the modem. Install drivers. Do not remove the enumerator. This should allow the modem to install normally. I would send you the driver but it is too large. Try going to http://808hi.com/56k/hcf7.asp there is a link to the modem drivers here.
