After a lightening zap that wiped my modem out, I replaced it with a 3Com PCI 56K V90....after installation it ran it's own test and failed the "loopback" test....I returned it as instructed....since the store did not have another modem, I opted to replace it with a used working modem from an
unused machine we have....it is a V.90 PCI Windows Modem (LHT) that came with the software to install with.....Win98SE will not
detect this modem.....have tried everything....just ran SFC and this is what was detected.....could any of these altered files be what is keeping Win98SE from detecting my modem? Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.....JudyMsiexec.exe

It sounds like the old modem was not removed from the equipment list in Device Manager. Modems are very persistent if not force removed. If this is the case, remove it without the new one plugged in and then reboot before installing the new one. After installation and reboot it should pick it up.
