Hi All,
Please help me with this,
What can we do when we get this message like Windows has not found a modem, make sure your interrupt is set on.
Please let me know as we cannot detect the modem looks like the modem is in its place properly but some how the OS not able to detect it, is it a driver problem.
Thanks in advance,
Bhanu

bhanu,
Sounds like your modem is not (plug and play) so you'll need to install the drive yourself without relying on 98 to find it. You shouyld have a floppy or CD which came with the modem. If not pop your box and yank the modem and see what make and model it is and then look for the right driver. If you can't determine what kind of modem it is by looking at it then you might want to check out "www.driverguidetoolkit.com" or "www.drivermagic.com". If you are able to determine what it is then "www.driverguide.com" will probably have your driver and they have free memeberships if you sign up.
Also depending on what other devices you have runnign you may have to add an additional com port for this device. Go to "Start/Settings/Control Panel/Add Remove Hardware". Don't autodetect, say that you'll choose from a list and then choose "Ports Com & LPT) and then add a com port, reboot and see if that helps.
Also, don't know the age of the modem, newer modems control their IRQ's through software where as older modems must be set manually via dip switches. If it's a newer one and you can see it in "Start/Settings/Control Panel/Modems" try changing the com port and see if that works.
good luck,
wired

Thanks wired,
It is a Compaq modem, and this is the situation after we succesfully hung the system and had to restore it using the Compaq system restore CD, however the Modem and the sound dont seem to have got installed correctly and they dont work now.
Then we went ahead and installed the Modem driver alone and then went up to control panel to see if the system can talk to the modem and get a reply but it says the OS cannot find a modem !, what's to be done.

Go to device manager in system in control panel. Are any devices there accompanied by a yellow ! or ? If so, one of them could be your modem. If any items are marked that way, how are they described?

Try going to the "install new hardawre", in the control panel. Windows will do a short search, then you will be given an option to select it from a list of hardware. Scroll down to modem and now windows will give a choice of modems, but instead insert your compaq restore cd, and click have disk. navigate to which ever drive that is and attempt to load the drivers now.

I had a similar problem a while ago whereas
my modem & sound card would work okay on thier own but together both would'nt work
properly. It turns out that a lot of modems
use popular chips/Ic's that most sound cards use which causes an interrupt request problem
no matter which slot they're plugged into if installed together.I changed the brand of sound card in the machine.removed any thing to do with the sound card & modem in device manager, when I restarted the computer it detected both of them with no probs at all.I installed the sound card in another similar machine and it worked perfectly, the other machine didn't have the same sound card as the first one.
