Modem not detecting

I have formatted a IBM pc 300 GL type system, with win98 os. now a BOCA type Powertel Netcruiser modem has been attached after a proper shutdown. now while restarting the system, its not automatically detecting the modem hardware. Then i tried with add new hardware option, add new modem option- everything says no hardware detected or no modem connected. Even i manually installed the modem drivers with standard modem type with their respective driver floppy. all in vain.

I'm not familiar with that modem. Is it PnP or an older non-PnP?
Go to device manager in system in control panel and see if there's any devices listed with a yellow ? or !

Think there onboard support for modem which u have to disable from Bios.

Have a look in device manager and look for a big yellow question mark with other devices next to it. If there is one device here then that will be your modem. Just click the device and click propeties then update drivers.
