I am tying to set up my internet account this computer, but the modem does not detect a dial tone. I heal a "click" like it turns on, then after a couple of seconds I get an error. The modem has a Lucent 1646T00 chip on it and I am using the Lucent Win Modem drivers. COuld it be that I am using the wrong drivers? If so does anybody know where I can get the right ones? Thanks.

That's a real popular modem. Go HERE to find the right driver. Should be a program about one meg. I would pull the modem out, install the drivers, it's a program, then reinstall the modem and see if it auto detects.
Just trying

Also, make sure the phone cable on the modem is actually connected to the "Line In" connector and not the phone connector. If it is, verify that the phone connection is actually working by removing the connector from the modem and connecting it to a telephone temporarily.
