No one else seems to be able to figure out this problem.
Approx. 3 weeks ago we found we needed a new motherboard because the capacitors were leaking. We ended up getting a K7SOM+ Mainboard installed.
Our modem is a USR 56K Voice PCI.
Since we installed the motherboard, our modem has been lagging. Meaning, every 5-8 minutes it is lagging for 1-2 minutes when we click a link to another webpage.
Yesterday, we took the computer in for a new modem install. Before we left we asked to try it out. As it turned out, the new modem was doing the same thing as the old modem. Therefore, we reinstalled the old modem and went to the store that put in the new motherboard.
He had looked for any suspecting software that may have spyware installed. We deleted IncrediMail, hoping that would fix the problem. It didn't help. We have Adaware on the computer, found 17 spyware files deleted them, that didn't help.
We hooked up another computer to the same phone jack last evening. After 1/2hr. not once did it lag.
We have called our internet service provider, they don't know what is wrong. We got 1 month free with another provider, still have the problem.
No one seems to know what is going on with this computer since the motherboard went in??

HELP!

On your motherboard there is amr slot.
This slot is for a modem dedicated to that motherboard. But if you put another modem on a pci slot you have to disable that amr modem slot in the bios.

When you start your computer press the del key on the keyboard right after the memory check. You will enter a blue screen with all the configuration of your motherboard. By the way you should have your manual of the motherboard with you everything is written in there how to get at it. Go into features set up and you should see in onboard device modem if it is enabled or disabled. if it is enable press the up and down arrow on the number key to change it to disable

I have gone into the features setup and changed the modem device from enabled to disabled. When I go into control panal-modem, the HSP56MR is still listed? The USR 56K Voice PCI is listed as well.

Upon surfing the net I still have the problem with the lagging since I've disabled the onboard modem.

What now?

Remove hsp56mr from your motherboard or you can uninstall it from device manager. Try to put more ram on your video in the bios.
In the bios go to advanced setup and the first one shared memory sized, increased it at least 64 mb

Hi yb:
Well I did what you said about going into bios-advanced setup-shared memory sized. Increased from 32MB to 64MB. It still is lagging this time it took almost 10 minutes before it lagged. It kicked back on about 1 1/2 minutes later. My bps is 42.6 tonight.
Should I go back into bios and change it back to 32MB?
What other ideas do you have for me to try??

Thanks again,

Try going into BIOS and disable your On-Board NIC.
This worked for me after I had exactly the same problem and couldn't figure it out.
