I am putting a new mobo in a case and it goes through post says either cmos battery low or checksum bad then I go through setup come out and it tries to boot from network, it doesn't save new configuration after restart and it tries to boot from network, doesn't read hard drive at all no matter how I run the cable, but does read a drive but says error on b drive when no b installed. I replaces battery and same happens model is pcchips 598lmr with onboard sound, video, modem, network, I am using a cyrix mII 266 and it only detects a 166,its a detecting cpu bios, any suggestions is mobo bad cpu or bios??

This may sound dumb but.....I had some similar stuff and it was a bad IDE cable. Every once and awhile you could get it to boot with floppy, bios was ok, drive b thing. I replaced battery, no help. Surprised me the cable fixed it, hope yours is as easy, heh.

Sounds like your cmos configuration is entirely off. You might have a b: drive specified in cmos. Also check your boot sequence. Usually you want a: then c: A bios upgrade might fix the incorrect speed posting.
Of course all this isn't going to help if you can't get the cmos to retain the info. Check to make sure you don't have "clear cmos" jumpered on your motherboard. Then make sure your motherboard isn't shorting somewhere, particularly the screw studs.
