About the *.vxd files that are not installed during installation of win98, and that causes a quite good part of blue screen, everyone says to extract them from the cab files (on win98 CD).
Ok, but what can I do when I haven't the CD (it wasn't in the package from IBM).
Isn't it possible to download somewhere ?...Thanks

First of all there remains a bit of controversy concerning the so-called missing .vxd files during install. See the *url below.
Is there a .cab file folder?
If so they're in it.
You can use SFC to extract & replace them.
Learn about SFC here on the download page: www.surecool.com
I'ts usually at C:\wndows\options\cabs

Your problem may have been a dirty CDrom when you first installed windows. VXD's are virtual driver files that windows needs to operate. If you can find out which VXD files are missing, I would be happy to try to send them to you, but it sounds like the CDrom you used had some currupt files on it. Its a common problem if disks are not taken care of properly. Sometimes, the cdrom itself has a problem reading scratched disks, while others can read of a damaged area. Sounds like you need to contact IBM to have them replace the disk you should of received with your computer in the first place. I'm sure they won't give you much resistance there. Good luck and let me know if I can help.

Larry G is correct. There is a lot of misunderstanding about the vxd files. One thing, unfortunately, is true. Configmg.vxd is created during the installation of windows and copying anyone else's configmg.vxd will guarantee you blue screens.See if you have a WIN95 directory. You can boot with a startup disk and go to that directory and run setup as if it was the CD. Otherwise, you'll have to buy a CD.

Ok, I've read the content of "infinisource".
Quite interesting !...But, what's then causing the "VxD blue screens" ?
If vmm32.vxd contents the other *.vxd, how can I know if they're corrupted, dammaged or simply not installed ?I don't understand ?....

Hello,
I am missing the file rfhidjoy.vxd on the Windows98 2nd edition. That file should help me installing a Boeder Crosscheck USB pad.
Do you know where I can get that file on Internet. Many thanks for your reply,

Hello,
I am missing a file in Windows\system\VMM32\
the file is enabled.vxdWho can help me? Many thanks for your reply,
Jan Arink, Netherlands

If you're looking for files that are needed from setup, and you don't have a Windows CD, there are 2 possible places you can find cabs. One is in the C:\Win9x directory if it exists, or in c:\windows\options\cabs, if you have an imaged pc. Don't copy VxD's from one machine to another, just run setup and let windows rebuild them.
