My computer will not boot up. I keep getting this error " Config manager can't load because 1 of the following is missing- vmm.vxd, shell.vxd, vtd.vxd, vxdldr.vxd, vpicd.vxd, vwin32.vxd" Does anyone have a suggestion?

Ok, insert your startup floppy and make sure that the boot disk has CD support drivers. At the menu, read the help file and find the program that will extract files from a CD and put them in a destination folder on your hard drive. Your distination folder should be C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\VMM32, but the error message should give you a full pathname, use that(write them all down). In the help file, note that the boot disk creates a RAM drive that will likely replace one of your current Drive designations, so make sure you account for this at the dos prompt. Go into dos. Insert your Windows 98 CD. Use the CD (pathname) command and the directory command to find the windows CAB. files on the Win 98 CD. Write down this directory and write down the name of one of the cabs (the extraction progam on your boot disk will treat all of the cabs as one archive). This pathname (i.e. DRIVE:win98\where the cabs are\name of cab.cab) will be where you extract from. In Dos, run the extraction program and follow the instructions. You have both where to extract from and where to extract to, make sure you also have the name of each .vxd. You can extract several .vxds at a time by seperating them by a space, but there is a character limit (you will see what I mean, if extraction fails, try extracting fewer files--around 4 or 5 at a time) continue this until all .vxds have been replaced. If you get stuck, ask for more help on this board and people will help you. I wouldn't reformat your harddrive. Good Luck.
