My computer will not boot up. I'm running Windows 95. When I go in to confirm the boot up procedure, everything is OK until it tries to load the drivers. At that point it can't find vshinit.vxd and quits. How can I either replace this file or work around it? I have Norton anti-virus on my laptop, so I'm not concerned about disabling McAfee which I believe is the program that the .vxd file is associated with.

Yes, that is a McAfee file. I suggest booting into Safe Mode (hit F8 key right before Windows splash screen comes up), and uninstalling McAfee VirusScan.

i have got a similar problem. I installed Mcafee virusscan . When i startup normally the system hangs. When startup with F8 and DON'T start up vshinit.vxd, the loading continues and the system startup correctly.
How can I solve the problem with the VSHINIT.VXD ??Please can somebody help this dutch friend

hello folks!

(the netherlands)

My guess is you have a virus. That's what happened to me. Run "regedit", then do a find on that file. My bet is ,it will appear for a few seconds then disappear. Try to run regedit again and you might find as I did ,it appears to no longer exist{regedit that is} VIRUS!!! Format C:----and good luck

it's easy to fix. simply download kazaa media desktop www.kazaa.com and type in vshinit.vxd and download it!! it works because it solved the problem for me.... enjoy
