Please Help Me! When I start up my computer it says that the files VRTFIXD.VXD is not found! What does this mean and how do I fix it?

Well whatever that file is, a program at startup is trying to load it. If this is win95, try booting up your computer holding down the ctrl key and see if it pops up again. If it does search for this sucker everywhere imaginable. Run sysedit and make sure theres nothing in there pointing to this thing. Also search the registry. But be careful down there. Email me and lemme know what happens!

Diane,
I had the same problem. Go to C:/windows/start menu/programs/start up and see if you have a folder called RetroFit. Delete it.

I get that message, from a program called Backup, that comes with FirstAid 98. I've only had it for a few days, but I intend to reinstall the program sometime - that's usually your best bet - search your start-up folders for programs that may cause that message - think to when that message begun to appear - had you installed anything recently?

I have had exactly the same problem. It seems to be related to the Backtrack Monitor program in First Aid 98. If anyone has a copy of this file by any chance, could they please send it to me.
Thanks.

Yep, I've got the same problem with Backtrack Monitor from the First Aid 98 program.
I've hunted for this on every disc I can but just can't find VRTFIXD.VXD anywhere.Same as Craig, someone please send me a copy!
Ta.

I am having the same problems. Has anyone managed to sort this one out yet? I have tried searching for the file and reloading windows 98 but the error continues to bug me.

Hooray!!!
I managed to find the elusive VRTFIXD.VXD on the First Aid 97 CD. I copied it into the First Aid 98 directory (by default... \program files\network associates\First Aid 98), restarted the computer, and now everything works fine.
If anyone wants the file, email me and I'll send it to you!P.S. Attention IE5 users! I found that when I closed FA98, "ASBROWSE" crashed. There is a patch to download from www.McAfee.com that sorts this out.
Hope this helps!

Getting this file would stop me losing the
remaining few hairs !!!Most grateful yr help. Thanks.

SAME PROBLEM AS REST-LOADED FIRST AID PROGRAM AND BEFORE EVEN INSTALLED HAD THE SAME VXD ERROR/MISSING MESSAGE.
HOPEFUL DAN-OF JUNE 21ST-WILL SEND ME IT AS EMAILED TODAY AND ITS DRIVING ME NUTS!

Can anyone oblige with VRTFIXD.VXD PLEASE !
I have a few problems but this is the most
annoying.

I have the same problem. Installed First Aid 98 and my system reports missing VRTFIXD.VXD. I have IE5 and have downloaded and installed the FA98 patch from the McAfee site. VRTFIXD.VXD is still missing. It wasn't on the FA95 disk or in any Windows CAB files on W95 or W98 distribution CDs. Please can anyone mail me this file? Thanks a lot. Rob

missing vrtfixd.vxd file missing when first aid98 is loaded plus when i close this program it come up with the message asbrowse has crashed.its really annoying could someone please email me on how to fix these problems. thanks

same problem First Aid 98 (pcformat copy) had upgraded the patch also after contacting pcformat support they sent the same patch supposedly to fix problem no luck.
Only vxd I see is vfixd.vxd in my system

looks like its backtrack wanting it from the
pcformat copy of firstaid98 if anyones got it can they mail me it please
maybe pc formats website might have it
www.pcformat.co.uk

Nice one, PC Format. Never had a problem until I installed the very software which is supposed to fix all your problems. I'll email Dan (above). Sounds like he might deserve a free subscription to PC Format magazine for sparing some of their blushes.

Well I'm glad I'm not the only one. I've spent hours trying to sort this out and have just found this web page which makes me feel a little better if annoyed that FIRST AID 98 really should have been sorted out. I found a web site called Driver Guide at
www.driverguide.com/
which may be able to help.

Nick's right...PC FORMAT - Give me a free subscription, NOW!! hehe.
I've now sent LOADS of people that "Flaming" file. (Respect to those who emailed their thanks!) I only hope that PC FORMAT provides it on their next coverdisk. If they don't, then it's time to get shitty with 'em.
P.s. Anyone had a prob with RTFIXMON taking too long to finish when you shut down the computer? Email me if you have! God, I'm nice.

Guess what, I also had a long sparring session with the missing VRTFIXD.VXD file
can't find it anywhere. I would be very grateful if some nice person out there would send me this file. P.S I have also noticed it takes longer to shut down the machine

I too am one of the abused PCF victims. Perhaps now the PCF website is active they will post the file there for all of us to download (optimistic ?)

yes yes yes.......same problem
pc format version of fa98
please helf can anyone send the file to me too PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How is it possible!
I bought the PCF-magazine here in Holland and
I have exactly the same problem with First Aid.
Won't bother Dan, and wait PCF's reaction.
Or......

same problem as everyone else.that damn first aid program.could somebody please send it to me.
ta very much!

Yo folks! Clare and others were right--PC Format has now posted a link to download vrtfixd.vxd; go to the homepage (www.pcformat.co.uk) and then 'pcf extra' and the rest will be obvious...

Please add my frustration to all of yours! I'm about to go to the PCF site Rick O'Gorman mentions to find this "elusive" (NOT my first choice of adjective...) VXD file. Also, similar to Dan's June 21 msg, "ASBROWSE" crashes every time I close the d... program (and I'm not using IE5, only 4.0 (v4.72). This is particularly annoying, as PC Medic then gives itself brownie points for fixing this problem (to add insult to injury, the patch on the McAfee site for this latter problem is not ID'd by Oil Change). Aaarrrgh!

Further to my response (#29), both the VXD and a link to the McAfee patch (to stop ASBROWSE from crashing) were available from the PCF site ( www.pcformat.co.uk ) under 'pcf extra' and fixed the problems. Many thanks!

FOR THE ATTENTION OF DAN.
Having downloaded the fixes for VXD and ASBROWSE crashing, I now have a slow exit with RTFIXMON. If you are reading this, DAN, could you e-mail me the solution. I shall be away for three weeks but will thank you when I get back! The archive files do not give your e-mail address.

Thank you Dan.... I'm e-mailing my demand for your right to a years free subscription from PCF.

Hello , obviously we already have our own litle comminity of "missing VXD" files.
I have the same problem. I coppied the VRTFIXD.VXD file from PCF website and coppied to the System32 (and system, just in case) /Drivers directory but still get this annoying message.
I have even tried to load this VXD usingbut its not good either.
Are there any other options left?
P.S. I read a previous response and I have deleted from the Registry (regedit) a file called VRTFIXD.VXD but I cant remember were it was, any thoughts?

It's about time someone made a page with all the vxd's. I too have been having trouble with the vrtfixd.vxd, but looking through the amount of complaints It's time for one of the mags to help us all out by making a page devoted to vxd and dll drivers.

OK I too need a fix for RTFIXMON (is it a Jamacian thing?) Just kidding, but I do need a fix. Ciuld someone please E-mail me with a fix? It causes slow shut downs.
Thanks!

ATTENTION PLEASE!
