Howdy, I doubt it is missing. It most likely reads that a file is missing from the system.ini file, write down the file that it is looking for and then once windows boots from the RUN menu type sysedit click on the system.ini file and scroll down till you find it and then delete that file and all should be well.

Laters,

Kevin The Tech Dude.

I downloaded Freetel off the internet some months ago, and didn't like it, so I deleted it instead of uninstalling it. Now when my computer restarts, it comes up in a blue screen and tells me that SYSTEM.INI is missing. Then it says a Freetel file is missing too. Then I have to push enter a few times to get my computer screen to come up right. I've tried to reinstall Freetel several times, but it downloads in DOS, and I don't know how to do DOS, nor do I want any DOS programs in my computer. I've also misplaced my Window's 95 CD. Please reply back to me with a relativly simple solution soon. This is driving me crazy. I really have to restore my computer and it won't restore. I've had to restore a few times, but this time it won't do anything.
Thank you for your time and help,
Diana

What have I done?

I went into the sysedit to fix a duplicate ini and accidentally erased the wrong line. Now I have a missing ini error. Where can I go to find a list so that I might restore it?

My PC seem to have gone "bonkers"

I'm using Windows 95 on my Compaq Armada 1570D Laptop

Something went wrong with my Internet Explorer and I just reloaded it

But when I restarted my PC the following message appeared

"A device file that is specified in the SYSTEM.INI file is damaged. It may be needed to run Windows

You may need to run the Windows Setup again. If the file is included in another software package, you may need to reinstall the software that uses the file.

C:\Windows\system\vmm32\ntkern.vxd"

HELP !! HELP !!

I did run my Windows 95 program again but the problem still appeared and when I enter any programs for Windows (eg Windows Explorer) I get a OE exception error

WOULD IT BE POSSIBLE TO REPAIR BECAUSE I WOULD NOT LIKE TO FORMAT PC AS I HAVE MADE NO BACK UPS

PLEASE HELP

CAROL-ANN

this is what it says when i boot my computer: Cannot find a device file that may be needed to run Windows or a windows application. The windows registry or system.ini file refers to this device file, but the file no longer exsist, If you deleted this file on purpose, try unstalling the associated aplication using its unistalling program. If you still want to use the applicatoin associated with this device file try reinstalling that application to replace the missing file. any help getting this warning off my computer would be greatly appreciated
