Half of my ram has disappeared. I have a laptop and i have opened it and reseated the removable stick, but nothing has changed. It's made my computer slower and i can't watch avi files any more.

Any ideas what i can do (apart from buy a new computer)?

New RAM stick. If the stick is seated properly and only half shows up, it sounds like a memory failure.

It's a good day when you learn something

Check out the type of stick you have and check out e-bay and find a comparable or larger capacity ram. See how much your Motherboard can handle.
I've recently bought quite a bit of new notebook ram on ebay at a fraction of the new cost.

Hopefully my advice will help you...Please post back with your results....thanks

If buying new RAM then check out crucial.com. Good quality RAM; usually around two thirds to half the price the typical manufacturer of your laptop/PC charges... Next day delivery.

I've dealt with them three times and have no complaints.

Sounds like the stick has died but no harm using a clean pencil rubber on its edge connectors, just in case it is being obstinate - tarnish can cause many problems.
