and then it says error reading drive abort retry or fail. from the c: (choosing abort) I can view the directory and change folders, but I can't run scandisk or boot to safe mode. any ideas? Thanks in advance
Sounds like possible harddrive problems. I would try to fdisk, format and then reload windows. Also try runing scan.exe from gateways website under harddisk utilities on it
Howdy, Sounds like your hard drive is dying. You can try the advice by gf and see if that works but normaly when the type of errors you are getting results in a bad hard drive, even if there are sectors marked bad, I would replace the hard drive.
