Comment:

on boot up running win95 I get this message:

Missing or corrupt file ifshlp.sys

and then it says error reading drive abort retry or fail.
from the c: (choosing abort) I can view the directory and
change folders, but I can't run scandisk or boot to safe mode.
any ideas?
Thanks in advance

Sounds like possible harddrive problems. I would try to fdisk, format and then reload windows. Also try runing scan.exe from gateways website under harddisk utilities on it

Howdy, Sounds like your hard drive is dying. You can try the advice by gf and see if that works but normaly when the type of errors you are getting results in a bad hard drive, even if there are sectors marked bad, I would replace the hard drive.

Laters,

CELERON 466, 2 HDD. OVERCLOCKED TO 525 (75 FSB) STABLE. I ONLY GET THE ABOVE REFERENCED ERROR MESSAGE RE IFSHLP IF I TRY 83 FSB (586). I ASSUME MY IS SIMPLY BEING EXCESSIVELY OVERCLOCKED.
