Comment:

I have a computer that when turned on states "missing operating system". I have changed the BIOS to boot from "removable drives" as my only choices are cd-rom, hard drive or removable drives, so I assumed removable drives was the floppy. Any ways, It just states "non system disk" with every disk I put in there. I have no command prompts, it wont boot from a Win 98 bootdisk? Please help!

Look for an option that is similar to "scan floppy at boot". You may have to search around.

I have no other optiosn than the three I gave you, but it does look like it is looking at the disk as the green light comes on, but I am now getting a "non system disk or disk error"?

Put the win 98 boot disk in the floppy and boot up. Choose load with cd rom support. Put your win 98 cd in the tray and at the A: prompt type setup to install win 98. If you don't have a win 98 cd, you're screwed. You can get a bootdisk at www.bootdisk.com

Well, I was hoping that would work, but it did not. I downloaded a win98 bootdisk, but the system says, "remove disks or other media"? It's like it will not boot off the floppy. I also tried to boot off the CD as well?

Try making a new Win98 boot up disk, it could be that you have a bad copy of it. Now for your boot up. Only drives that are removeable are the floppy drives and cd rom. Now usually in any BIOS, the options for boot up are.

A,C,CD rom
CD rom,A,C
C only

Etc,etc. Try changing it to boot A,C,CD rom. If that doesn't work. Try disconnecting the cd rom itself.

Get another bootdisk from www.bootdisk.com and extract it to a good floppy disk. Then use it when rebooting. If the drive attempts to read the disk but can't then the drive is bad.

Problem sounds like it lies with your bios. Enter your bios as soon as you boot the pc up... usually by hitting delete or f1 or another key (may say on your screen). Make sure that boot order is for A or floppy first. Save it and restart with the Win98 floppy again.
