Missing NIC in device manager

Hi all, I have been working with this pc with no internet connection. I bought a compatible NIC for win 98 instead of searching for the driver for the existing NIC. When I installed the new NIC, pc recognized it as plug and play and installed the driver. Surprisingly enough, NIC does not show up in device manager. Any solution out there? Thanks.

Did you remove the old NIC? If the cards both use the same chipset Win98 will have a problem with that. Expand ALL the pluses for hardware and see if it shows elsewhere. Did you reboot?

Does it show up in Networking in the Control Panel?

I had one PC that acted exactly like yours...the NIC appeared to install correctly, but wouldn't show up & wouldn't work. It finally installed correctly when I went to Network>Properties>Add>Adapter. I have no idea why this worked, but it's worth a try on your machine.
