Tried to install software for HP PSC 1510 all-in-one printer and can't get past the first step, with error message claiming "missing MSinfo.nfo" I have seen similar posts but no concrete answers. Works OK with my Laptop running XP but need to have it on the desktop so kids can print their homework. HP technical support no help...tells me to call Microsoft..

I'm not sure if this is the file they mean, but you can create a msinfo.nfo file when running directx.
Got to START--RUN and type in dxdiag and click OK. After it's done its system check click on 'more help' and then the 'msinfo' box. When it's done, open 'file' from the toolbar and choose to save the results. It will default to saving it as a .nfo file. Type in MSINFO as the file name.
I'm not sure what folder you should save the file in. If the printer setup procedure can't find it and then asks where to look, browse to the file's location.
I can't be certain but I think that's the file it's looking for.

Is the printer connected to the laptop and you are trying to access it from the desktop through a LAN?

Hi DAVEINCAPS. Hope you don't mind continuing to help with my issue. I tried your suggestion to create the MSINFO.nfo file. I saved it to the directory that was listed by the install the first time (c:\windows\TEMP\..)The file was created as you outlined. When I tried to reinstall the software on the desktop, it failed again with a different error message. The install seemed to die with a screen shot of the MSINFO.nfo window being displayed. The description of the error that displayed is as follows: Error situation code 03819613 Lines retrieved from installation error logs Now.Launching = X:\hpzwup01.exe -1XXX -fX:\DIVins.Dat Exit Code=-1.
When I click through the error log, I also get additional information that is similar to above but is not complete since it appears to run out of space to display: D:\setup\hpzwup01.exe -1 ENU -f C:\windows\hpoins05.dat -Validate NO -w3..
Obviously, I have done something wrong or there is another issue at work.
Note to Ham30. No, I am not networked. I simply installed the software on the XP laptop and then connected the USB line from the printer so I could at least print from the laptop. My issue is with the 98 Desktop that the kids use for homework.
Appreciate further help with diagnoses and potential solutions.
Thanks.

This page indicates anti virus software may interfere with the installation. Besides shutting down your anti virus software it'd be a good idea to CTRL-ALT-DEL and 'end task' everything except explorer.
You may want to run msconfig and uncheck 'load startup items'. Then reboot and CTRL-ALT-DEL anything that's left.
I'm not sure what the error messages mean. I think the problem is something running in the background or some hardware incompatibility. Does your PC meet the minimum requirements for the printer? Is the USB port enabled? Does it need to be on a USB 2.0 port?
