i think you are searching for kernel32.exe!?! for win98 you have to open win98_32.cab and for win95 open win95_18.cab with winzip and extract the file into windows\system\
i dont know any kerne1.exe file. hope i could help you.

I have the kerne1.exe file on my comp.We had a hacker mucking about on the comp on the 17/04 and they have been back a couple of times since.I noticed the kerne1.exe when the was stuffing up and i did cntl-alt-del to see what wasnt responding , and it was that file , i have never noticed it before , so i checked out its properties and it was created the day and time the hacking started, so is it a virus ? my scanner isnt picking it up.Now after reading all these messages im a bit worried to delete it.

I don't Know what happened to my computer. One day I was giving the Pc a virus Scan with a Virus Scan called the cleaner and it detected that the file kerne1.exe was a virus so I delete it, but I gave it another virus can and it showed the virus again. So I gave the PC (COMPAQ) a Quick Restore because it was always crashing down and I left the kerne1.exe in the recycle bin cause I was afraid to delete it, because wvery time I turned on the Computer it gave that nasty error message, so I did the Quick Restore and when it was finished it gave again the error message and when I looked up the Recycle Bin the File wasn't there. I don't know What to do. I went to http://www.symantec.nl/avcenter/venc/data/sub.seven.20.html I followed the instructions but I didnt find the run.exe or the string @=”run.exe \”%1\” %*” and Im still Frustated. Please I need HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!

well, hi ther ! i had a similer problem so, i just had to solve it ! what you all need to do is to search for a file name " system.ini ". once you found it, double click on it. there, you have to look for " kerne1.exe " among all the writings, usualy found next " explorer ". ( you can also use the command " search " and simply look for it. once you found it, erase it !!! save your work, and it won't bother you again. happy i could help. ofer. :-)
