I'm not sure where those files come from (I bet technet could tell you, if you have acess to it) but they normally reside in the C:\windows\system on your hard drive. If they are files belonging to a program then you could just reinstall the program. If they are windows files (I think they arent because I don't recodnise them) then I would reinstall windows.

Looks like you've got a virus. Check out www.vil.nai.com/vil/rat10566.asp for information on removing the Backdoor virus. It has several variants and aliases.

Yes, I too have been a victim of the trojan and now have no mueexe.exe, all I want is a copy of this file so I can use my apps, back everything up, then reformat/reinstall my c drive. I've searched loads of groups like this, and the only answer is to go to sites that tell you how to get rid of the virus. Thats no good if you're still missing the mueexe.exe!!! If there is no where to download it from on the internet, them I'm gonna make it available from my site as soon as I get my comp back to normal!!

Ignore my last message, Tom in response number 5 had it right (respect), however, if you're not a comp expert as I'm not, the page he directs you to is a little confusing at first, it took me a whole day to figure it out! So, I made my own idiots guide to the mueexe.exe problem here
http://www.btinternet.com/~kirkoid/virus.htm
Hope it helps.

I used Kirk's solution as well and it seemed to work intially. But now i am experiencing some new problems. They appeared the first time i rebooted the system after implemnting Kirk's solution. The system takes a long time to boot (15+minutes) and then shows the hourglass ICON whener i try to use the start menu or other command on the toolbar. Any other issues that you have had?

Ade, sorry you're experiencing problems, since implementing the changes I posted, I've had no probs at all. Infact, I was getting a lot of crashes and run time errors before, I guess because of the virus, that seem to have stopped now. I really don't know whats going on with your computer, but I would suggest taking a close look at your registry, win.ini and sytem.ini files as they're the ones you edited to get rid of the virus. Let me know how you get on...

Open any txt.file, click FILE, then NEW and paste this:

REGEDIT4

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\exefile\shell\open\command]
@="\"%1\" %*"

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\CLASSES\exefile\shell\open\command]
@="\"%1\" %*"

Save it as "undo.reg" in the Windows folder.
Click on START, then on RUN and type in:
undo.reg and press ENTER.
Click in the next field on YES and that's it!

Jim, you also need to remove references to the files from your win.ini and system.ini
