If you are talking about a win95 startup floppy diskette, try another one or download one from www.bootdisk.com.

I notice that you have desiginated XP as the system OS. If Xp is on the system where you are trying to load win95, you will have to repartition the hard drive to FAT16. Win95 floppies will not be able to access an XP drive that is partitioned as NTFS or FAT32.

Only the earliest versions of 95 could not access FAT32.

Not much in the way of actual detail (despite posting twice) but yes, receiving that message while attempting a floppy boot indicates a problem with the boot diskette - try another.

Are you sure it's the diskette that you're booting from? Is the hard drive really empty - what was on it before??

Ok - well, you'll need to use fdisk and repartition first if the drives were setup as NTFS under XP - of course, first you'll need to successfully boot with a floppy.

Presumably you were already using one - what you described as a 'setup disk' - although it seems to have problems.

As already mentioned, you can d/l an image from bootdisk.com or a million other places by searching the term bootdisk. Once you have the file, run it and it will create the actual boot diskette on a floppy.

It's preferable to use the same version as the OS you're installing - although you can use anything from 95B to 98SE if you just want to boot and have CD access for the install
