When I look into the help files I tick various items but the next step does not take place and I am faced with a blank screen. I gather I have some files missing but cannot find my CD rom. I purchased another CD (not a copy) and I have reinstalled. It has made no difference. What can I do?
Thank you for any kind of suggestion.
Kind Regards

Jeannine

Have you tried sfc?
click Start>run and type in sfc. Make sure you have your 98se cd in the cd rom to restore the corrupt files. HTH

If you need a simple solution, try mine. I try to give advise on things that have happened to my PC. Changes in registry can be FATAL! Glad to have a chance to help you.

Two things.

Firstly, just take a little care when using sfc - it can get things wrong. See my stuff on this link and WhitPhil's additions:

SFC PROBLEMS

Secondly, I wonder if you might happen to be refering to the troubleshooting section of Help. If so, this feature was removed with a Windows Update - you just get a blank screen on the right when you select a symptom. It seems they want you to use their on-line troubleshooter (wherever that is).

Troubleshooters trouble was the infamous Q824145. One of the fixes was to search for TSHOOT.INF in the windows\inf folder, right click it and choose Install. Yet that fix didn't work if some other update (q832894) had been applied in which case a registry fix is possible or download this file to do it.

Troubleshoot the troubleshooters ... sounds like MS.
