Hello. On Friday I had a few image files in my my documents folder and I went to access them today and the were gone. I did a search and couldn't find them. It seems like they disapeared after I opened a win zip file that someone emailed me. what could be wrong? are my files still on my computer somewhere?

Search your files by date with Windows search tool. You may find them in the temporary folders,MY Documents folder, last folder used by a member of your family to save a download.A search by date without concern for where it is will give you the answer.Goog luck.

Almost any file with a double extension is a virus - please be guarded in future. They hope that you are not displaying file extensions and will not see the last bit. It's probably a self extracting zip that runs somehow.
Update your virus scan and run it pronto.
If it finds something and can't fix it search Google for the name of the virus, the filename or any other evidence. See if there is a removal tool available.

Do you think I definitly have a virus? I did a virus scan and it didn't find anything. Is there any way I can get the files that are missing back?

Can't help much. If the file was in the form "name.pdf.zip" then it was rather peculiar, and double extensions like this are frequently used to send viruses. Having said that the last extension is more usually .exe .pif or .scr which are direct executables.
If it was in the form "name.zip" and was a compressed file containing a .pdf then this is just an innocent file that opens with Acrobat Reader.
If your virus checker says all is OK then I suppose we must believe it. Just the same it might be worth you downloading Ad-Aware because this often finds malware and spyware that can cause strange things to happen. You can get it here:
http://www.webattack.com/get/adaware.shtmlIt's most unusual for files to simply vanish without trace. Have you any idea of their extensions - usually images are .jpg ? You can go to Find/Files or Folders and type *.jpg (if that's what they were) and it will find all the files of that type on your system. There will probably be quite a lot because programs often use them. Maybe you will recognise a name. Presumably you can't remember any actual file names.
You can just double click any one in the list found to view it.
