Microsoft Knowledgebase article
I don't know if this is your exact problem, but it seems similar. Reinstalling Dial-Up Networking seems to be the answer.

I had the same problem once. Though I don't fully recall everything I did- I do know I had to go to control panel-networking- and add client. That took care of one or 2 of them. Eventually I got tired of it all and reinstalled win98, but I don't exactly recommend reinstalling

ok- that didnt work im afraid. My problems seem to grow with each new thing i try. At startup i get a message like :the system.ine refers to this file but the device driver no longer exists etc, these are the files it mentions: vnetsetup,vredir,dfs.vxd. Msnp32.dll is also missing at windows startup. I have tryed to reinstall "dial up networking" but to no success. The problem has also affected my display properties. I am forced to look at my screen in 6 colours at a resolution of 640x480 whereas before i could have all colours and 800x600. I also have a dvdrom and cd rewriter attached and they are suddenly not recognised anymore i.e. they do not show in "my computer" and autorun features no olonger work. I also have a cd in the dvdrom but i am unable to remove it - the tray will not respond to the eject buttons. Although the cd-rewriter does. I have also checked the add/remove programs for any programs recently unsuccessfully removed and reinstalled the majority of my applications...to no avail. Also after following the advice on the microsoft knowledgebase article i believe i have created more problems. The system information option now says :

I also found that there was conflict between devices and i had to disable my printer port so that i could enable 'Sis PCI audio accelerator'
Please if u believe these incidents to be related i would appreciate any help. If not can you offer any advice to solve one of many problems?

Hi Mark,
This won't hurt anything and will probably correct all of your issues.
Go to the Control Panel and Select Network.
Highlight the Client for Microsoft and select Remove.
It may say something like your network it not completed. Disregard this and restart the computer.
HTH!
Post back.
Good Day!
Mesich

thanks for the help. Doing the above stopped the message for vredir.vxd and the msnp32.dll at startup but it is still there for vnetsetup and dfs.vxd. Also the monitor is still dodgy and the disk drives arent recognised :S
