Recovering from a hard drive failure, win98 produces pages of error messages. It's missing devices called for in the registry or in sys.ini(I lost about a gigabyte of programs, so lots of devices are missing). Using bootlog , regedit and sysedit I've tried to repair the damage but I'm getting nowhere. Is there any easier way to stop windows from looking for these drivers or do I have to delete everything and start from an empty hard drive?

If you lost that much, I'd make a cdrom boot disk, then fdisk and format the HD and start from scratch which might be easier as you'd have to reinstall the programs again anyway. Back up anything you need first if you can still access it.
