But now it has been occuring on every game. I dont know if it is a virus or if I need to chang my preferences or what. Please help me and guide me through this problem!

I'm just like most of you guys, I un-installed the "Zone Alarm", and now I'm missing the "VSNETUTILS.DLL" file. I don't know if anyone has browsed through their computer without clicking "OK" when the VSNETUTILS error comes up, but I can do that, but not access the internet. Either way, if someone has the "VSNETUTILS.DLL" file, could you please send it to me, or let me know how I can find it. Thanks in advance.

Hi fellow sufferers

I came across the following at a forum:

I don't know if this helps, but when I was having trouble with missing
and corrupt DLL's the tech from Microsoft sent me this:

1. Click Start, Run, type "sfc", click OK
2. Click "Extract one file from installation disk", type SETUPAPI.DLL
(example) in the "Specify the system file you would like to restore" box
and click Start
3. In the Rstore From box, type the path to the Win98 folder on the
Windows 98 CD-Rom, type c:\windows system in the Save File In box and
click OK.
4. Click OK then restart the computer
5. Repeat as necessary

I'll try it too one of these days. At present
I reinstalled ZA and am corresponding with
Zonelabs. It does however take a week to get
a reply from them and their reponses to my cries for help have not helped yet.

Elisam

Is this vsnetutils.dll necessary ie did it come with ZoneAlarm? The ZA web site lists it as something to be sure is removed.
I can get to the Internet but can't reinstall ZA.
If the vsnet dll comes from ZA then maybe re-downloading the setup .exe, after deleting or renaming the one you first downloaded, will also invoke the download of the dlls necessary?
Sorry you all are unable to connect. Can you download ZA from another PC and see if the new files on it include vsnetutils.dll, etc?

You don't understand, they can't access ZA; they can't access anything. At least that was the case with me for three days. Tonight I reinstalled version 2.144, luckily I still had it in my temp directory from last April. The version 2.6xx had hosed my pc so I had a kernel.dll exception. I can access the Internet now, I could only connect but no program would work. I no longer had the prompt to find vsnetutils.dll after I first ran ZA's Unwise tool, selecting the Custom option. I don't think you should/can delete msvcrt.dll microsofft's runtime. Be selective about whatever you delete with Unwise. Then deleted (in order of most recent, try these first) IAMdb.rdb and Default.ldb, the ZoneLabs directory in my Program Files, and the one in my Windows files, which included ZAlog.txt, unwise zauninst, a tutor.dll and other stuff, and previous to that vsmonapi.dll,vsutils.dll,vspubapi.dll,vsdata.dll, and earlier still vsdata95.vxd, which required removal at boot time in a command(ie something like: move \..\..\vsdata95.vxd \..\..\vsdata95.vxd)via autoexec.bat file.
So now I'm ok except I have ZA on my PC and I'd rather try some other product. But I'll risk the ire of my family and friends if I uninstall this one and get hosed again. See ZA's website support for uninstall specifications for win95,98,NT etc, as I was moved to try these deletions by what I saw there.
Hope this helps

I just got Zone Alarm upgraded! I decided to uninstall the prev. version first and I guess that was a big mistake. But it all turned out good, after searching my System, backups, and the web for the VSNETUTILS.DLL for 2 hours I said screw the warning and went on with the installation anyway, and it went great. After I rebooted I did a system search for the DLL and there it was in C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM, turns out I didn't need it afterall! But to help others out I decided to zip it up and put it in my Yahoo! Briefcase for everyone to have. If you want it go to my homepage.

I was having the same problems only my dll file was still there but it was damamged. I uninstalled and reinstalled zone alarm several times and it did not fix it. I ended up following zone alarms instructions for removing it. I deleted every file they listed that wasn't removed with the uninstall. Then I deleted all the files they had listed that are in the registry. Aftewards I reinstalled Zone Alarm and now it is working fine with no error messages when I start my computer. Here's a link to the instructions for removing it.
http://www.zonealarm.com/services/support_install_98.htm
Hope this helps

I managed to recapture the missing dll. anyone needing a copy, please let me know, I can forward it on to you.

I simply reloaded the zone alarm pro back on. I have yet to try and remove it again. I wonder if Castro wrote the code to this thing.

I was another victim of the missing vsnetutils.dll file after uninstalling a previous version of zone alarm to update to the next version. It seems that the mistake was uninstalling it. So I went back and reinstalled the previous version from a copy I had, then installed the newer version on top of it. Works fine now. Just one note, while installing the new version, it mentions something about changing vector settings. Just click yes and continue with the installation.

Here's how this really works:

Unless you remove ALL the files and registry entries from ZA, when you install a new or older version, it tries to reuse the existing files.
The problem is the DLLs are in WINDOWS\SYSTEM\*.dll but ZA looks for them in WINDOWS\*.dll
If you want to avoid trouble on windows 98, don't use 2.6.231! Stay with 2.6.88

If you already messed-up the config when updating and trying to go back to 2.6.88, here's what you do:
1) Search on google for the word zonalm26.exe and download it if you're sure that's 2.6.88
2) Go in the SYSTEM folder and delete or at least rename the ZoneAlarm folder.
3) Open START/Find/File and type vs* and select C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM and uncheck the subdirectory lookup
That should display all the ZA DLLs and then some.
4) Right click on each DLL and press R or click on properties,
5) Click on the version TAB,
6) If it says 2.6.88 keep the file, otherwise delete it (only delete zonealarm dll files - be careful).
7) If you had the proper version of VSUTIL.DLL and VSNETUTILS.DLL copy these two to the WINDOWS folder and try installing ZA 2.6.88 It should work the first time.
8) If you didn't have the right version, once you have deleted those files, search the WINDOWS folder for vs* as well, and repeat step 6.
9) Now try installing ZA 2.6.88. If it complains, say OK until it quits.
The VSUTIL.DLL and VSNETUTILS.DLL will have been placed in your SYSTEM folder by the installer.
10 Now copy these two files to the WINDOWS folder and re-install ZA 2.6.88.
It will work this time.

I hope this helps, it took me a while to figure it out... It's a bug in ZA installer.
