Missing command.com...I give up

I formatted my Hard drive that was running WIN98. When I put in my Start up disk, it loads so far and then INVALID COMMAND.COM ENTER CORRECT NAME OF COMMAND INTERPRETER. There is no A promt or C prompt. I tried download the Ultimate boot disk and even that doesn't get past this. I have swapped hard drives, motherboards...even Ram, thinking maybe something would work...I give up, Help techie one kenobi, you're my only hope!!!

geez...I know it sounds kind of simple, but I have a win98se bootdisk that I could send as a file attachement if you'd like to try it erin

Sounds like you have the wrong startup disk. Download one from bootdisk.com for your system. How did you format if it doesn't recognize the boot disk? Tell us everything. If you get it to recognize the boot disk type sys c: at the prompt.

Erin, I can send you my startup floppy (command.com and all on it) if you want it. Or I can send you the file command.com all by itself. Your choice. Mine is Win98 also.

Erin-- I had this problem a month ago. The computer would not boot with any startup disk I tried. I went to C:/windows/command.ebd and put all the .ebd files on a diskette and it boots fine from that. Don't have any idea what caused my problem.
