A solution!! Finally!! I am writing this just in case someone else has this problem and can't find help with it. I don't know if it's just AOL or what but it's a mail thing. I had to download a decoder to open these.

This occurs quite often on AOL. Aol has problems with decoding MIME types that are mixed. Attachments get merged with the document etc. etc. The best thing to do would be to download a program called "FastCode 32" from "www.download.com". It's pretty easy to use and it's free. Hope this helps!

I'm having the same problems everyone. I'll be searching for something to help us all out. I wonder who invented this rediculous format anyway and didnt make a decoder available to the public? And for those who are sending out .mim files, how do they do it??? Do they have .mim file encoders? Ahh frustration.

okay all u guys have to do is go to this
site : http://www.winfiles.com/apps/98/mail-encode.html
and download the "Decode Shell Extension" program or whatever else is on that page! With the "Decode Shell Extension" all u have to do is install and then right click on your mim file and click on decode. That's it~! later.

Response #30 is on the money. I downloaded the decoder shell extension and I was able to open my file. Thanks.
Just remember after dowloading the decoder. Select the mim file and right click, click on decode and you are good to go.

To get the decoder for mim/mime files, go to
www.download.com type fastcode32 in the search window and hit enter. Type it all together, no spaces, otherwise, you will not find it.

I'm on AOL and have been having a terrible time with .mim and mime files. I have been getting emails with .mim attachments such as text, pictures and etc. I downloaded the Winzip to see if I could open these attachments and can't open the downloads with AOL and Winzip. MIM and MIME files can be opened very easily using WinZip. All you have to do is 'unzip' them. WinZip is a great little compression program that will compress the file size which makes it faster and more effecient for transmission.
You can download a 'non-registered' version of Winzip for free at www.winzip.com.
Also if you are on AOL, you can go to keyword MIME for help.

Try Keyword "Mime"
This takes you to AOL Downloads
At bottom click on "Handling Mime Files"
I downloaded "Mimdecoder V6.0 MIM Email"
at no cost (so far)
It works well. It separates text from JPEGS ect. Remember to go back to where orginal file was stored to delete unwanted text, etc.

Go to download.com and go to little input screen in top right hand corner. Type in "fastcode32", download and unzip, installs itself. No cost.

Why did I think I was the only person having this problem? I am very diappointed with AOL. It cost too much for the type of services that we are receiving. I am switching to someone else when my billing cycle is over. I have about 40 e-mails with pictures and some with just attachments that I can not enjoy.

Okay I have the solution:
Windows users :
1. go to www.download.com and type in the search box, Fastcode32 , as ONE word. then download it OR.
2. you can go to http://www.etresoft.com/download.html and download the windows product
MAC USERS:
1. GO TO http://www.etresoft.com/download.html
AND DOWNLOAD THE PRODUCT
THESE WORK!!

For #138-
.txt files can be read with Word Pad or Notepad, both standard programs on Windows. Also, MSWord will open them.
We dropped AOL ages ago for this and LOTS of other reasons.
For #119, are you talking about all attachments or just the mimes? If your problem is just 'downloading', try HELP on your browser.
