I have beeen hunting for a solution for this problem for days now. I have never had this error before. It recently started when I formatted my hard drive. Whenever I am surfing the net I get the following message, which in turn will close down everything so I have to ctrl-alt-del to get my PC restarted. Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library Runtime Error Program: C:\WINDOWS\EXPLORER.exe abnormal program termination. I use win98 with IE5.5. I have already checked my system.ini files and it reads shell=explorer.exe I downloaded the VBRUNsp5 file from cnet.com in hopes that it would help but I still get the error. I ran scan disk which replied with no errors found. I installed norton systemworks, ran the disk checker as well as the virus scan and found nothing.I have used the win98 CD to go through the setup again with noavail. I have reinstalled IE5.5 and even reformatted the hard drive. Again. And I am still getting the error message. Please if anyone can help or think of something I can try I would be greatful.

Just a thought... Try reinstalling VB3, 4, 5 and then 6sp5 in that order. I did that after a reinstall of Win98 and it caused no problems. Perhaps it can also resolve yours.
