It's possible your explorer window is set to view .dll files and other system files. We should have realized in your previous post.

Go to any instance of "My Computer", select "View", choose "Folder Options", and select the "View" tab. From there, tick the "Show All Files" option under Hidden Files, and you should be all set.

Should have been 'not set' to view system files.

sam, You generally don't open .dll files. Why would you want to try to do that? What you need to do with that mfc42.dll is to right click it, choose copy, then open Windows Explorer (not Internet Explorer), open your C:\Windows\System folder and right click and choose Paste. This will put your mfc42.dll into the Windows\System folder where it belongs. You may have to register that file after doing the above. To do this click Start/Run and type in: regsvr32 mfc42.dll (notice the space between regsvr32 and mfc42.dll)then click OK.
