when my computer starts, the memory from bios shows 64mb
in windows98 from the computer sytem properties shows 63mb .. is that ok?? because all other computer we have in the work shows 64mb (all computers have the same hardware configuration)
thanks!

Exactly where are you seeing the 63mgs of ram listed?
Just off the top of my head I would say it's not important, however you may want to check with your tech person.

Well, I am in the opposite mind of FJ, 64 MB of RAM is ridiculous today in a computer configuration, when you know that for exemple, the program word of Microsoft takes a minimum of 50 MB to run properly.
Minimum RAM config is today 128 MB, as long as you don't try to use your computer to play games.
Best RAM is today 256 MB, but I use myself a 196 MB after to have been adding a brooch, you can do it easily yourself, all computers today have sockets to add it.....

Sometimes a small piece of memory is used to cache video. This is usually a BIOS uption that can be set/unset. Even though the hardware configuration is identical among those machines, maybe one has a slightly different BIOS setting.

Hi
If you have Onboard video - it could be allocated a meg - as indicated on many of the pages that resulted from a search.
Example onboard video:

There was also smartdrv.exe issues eg:

Sometimes, depending on where you are looking at the RAM in your pc, will show what memory is available not wwhat is actually in the system. If you frequently reseave errors that contain some hex value (ex. AF0000) it means the memory is going bad. I mention this because this is also a symptom of memory going bad. Download a program called MemTurbo, at www.freeware.com. This program will allow you to view how much memory is available and will attempt to recover the memory and return it to the system when it is low. I would recommend extending your memory also to atleast 128meg. That would be the minimum, 256 wouldnt hurt, and would help in overall performance.

This is caused by setting in the BIOS. If you have a look, you find a setting that sets a 1MB gap for every 64MB of RAM.
It doesn't do anything really; I can't remember what it's for.
