I have a 1 gig memory stick. I had to go
to mfr web page to download driver. It
worked and I copied huge amounts of files
and photo folders. I use a screen capture
software to get photos and newspaper items
and they are sent to desktop folder.
When I try to drag and drop or copy and
paste to the Memory Stick, I get the
message "can not copy (file name) the
directory or file cannot be created." The
mfr said it sounded like it was defective.
I had it replaced 2 times and both new
ones eventually have the same error. When
I returned it to the dealer, they got
the same message and replaced with no
problem.

This is just a stab in the dark but could this have something to do with an obscure file extension that isn't being recognised.

Another possibility. You are storing too many files in the root directory. Try creating subdirectories and store the files in them.

Have you verified that the drive isn't write-protected? I have a Memorex USB drive that has a lock on it. Like 3 1/4" floppies...if it's locked, you can't write to it... So all you do is unlock it...

Your last line foxes me though. I don't see why you or the dealer get this error message. Did they explain why?
