media player wont install

OS: windows 98
CPU/Ram: pentium3/533

i tried and i tried to get windows media player(version 7.1 for windows 98)but it just wont work! it says installation has failed. ??? i download the program from microsoft website but it dont matter. still wont work. 9 series wont work neither.

those are not supported by win98. only version 6 and below are supported.

I have no problem with 7.1 or the series 9 of Media Player on my 98SE system. Use Add/Remove to get rid of 7.1 and 9 then clean up the registery. Windows is notorious for not removing all of the old registery keys.

Yeah - 6.4 is the last version supported by 95 - naturally '98 can run 7
