Be sure it isn't set to be muted!
Try using the 'open-file' function with the player to go directly to a .cda file and see what happens. And be sure the player is the program set to open the sound files you use,...in 'folder-options' there is a chance that this has not been set as the default player perhaps.
And check your drivers to see if all the sound devices are functioning ok.....might be the first steps to take.
