Comment:

I am trying to play an .mpeg file on windows media player 9. This file was created for me by a friend from an old VHS video tape. The file is 25Mb in size. It plays on my works computer. When I try to play it at home, I get "Error# 80040154" and no help from microsooft! I have successfully played other mpegs on windows media player 9, included larger ones. I am at a loss as to what's missing. Any ideas, anyone? Thanks!

Try the older players. For WMP7, type wmplayer in run line. For verions 6.4, type mplayer2. Maybe it will play or you'll get an error message that means something.

Also, I still get the 'class not registered' line come up after it has looked for a codec. presing the 'web help' button produces teh same error message number, and no real help :-(
Thanks anyway for trying.

Thanks Dave. I downloaded the file, installed the codecs... but alas I still got the same error. I think I need to find out whether the package that was used to create the file had any proprietary compressors associated with it that the microsoft site doesn't provide. Thanks anyway for your help.
