Subject: media file(.dat) is not running
OS: windows 98 se
CPU/Ram: pIII/64

When i try to run the file with extension with dat it is not running in mplayer and itis giving the follwing error message"MMSYSTEM 296the file cannot be played on the specified mci device. The file may be corrupt or not in the correct". It is running in the mplayer2 how to solve this problem please help me.

.dat files are data files, not media files. If it is supposed to be a media file, just change the extension fron .dat to .mpg, .avi, .wmv or whatever it should be. Just rename it with one of those extensions.

Takeda is incorrect. Dat files can most definatly be video.

You may not have the correct codec to view the file.
