Can anyone tel me what mdm.exe is for? (ver. 6.00.8149, description: machine debug manager. Company: Microsoft Corporation - Int. & Orig. name: mdm.exe - Product name: Microsoft(R) Visual Studio). It is on one of my computers win98se 666-Intel installed by shop and no one up to now could explain its function or if it is necessary to load it at startup. Another of my computers win98se does not have the file. A third of mine has it in win2000advancedserver, different version (6.0.0.8424). If mdm.exe is usefull, can I simply replace old win98se version with new win2000 version?. By the way, the file is not on the 98se-cd.

from:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;q194396Mdm.exe is the Machine Debug Manager, which is used by the Windows NT Option Pack and Microsoft Developer Studio to provide application debugging. When Script Debugging is enabled for Internet Explorer 4.0, the debug manager is initialized whenever Internet Explorer 4.0 is started.
So, how do you disable script debugging, in Internet Explorer advanced settings tab. GL

Mdm.exe is part of MS Office, not Windows. It is not needed to run at startup, as it is only used in VB Scripting operations.

After you UNselect it, browse to \windows.
You will find a "ton" of TMP files that start with FFF.
Delete them all.

Gee Al, I guess Microsoft would disagree. BTW, have you ever looking in the Advanced tab. The little box that says disable script debugging.
