Hi, I'm running McAfee Virus scan version 4.0.02. Every time my machine boots up it gives me the error message "unable to load device drivers, reinstall the product". So i remove McAfee and install it again but the problem persists. I even ran the windows 95 setup program and overwrite the windows files and then try installing the same version of McAfee but it doesn't solve the problem. I don't want to format my drive, can anyone help?

Hello,

The following could be the solutions
1. Uninstall the Mcafee software & check whether you get the error, if error occurs the the problems is not with the mcafee s/w.

2. you have mentioned that whenever the machine boots, it say 'unable to load device driver ", these error is no were connected to your Mcafee software, it is something to do with your hardware device.Just remove the device driver entry from the "ini" files of windows eg (win.ini, system.ini etc).

1. I don't see any error message when i unistall Mcafee. The system boots up fine.

2. I've checked the win.ini and system.ini but i cannot find the corrupt drv entry. I've already overwritten the system files(win.ini, system.ini) when i ran the windows setup.
The complete message is "unable to load the device driver, please reinstall the Mcafee virus scanner"

Have you tried going to the McAfee site and downloading the latest engine, 4.03?
I just installed McAfee myself (v. 4.01) and had no problem but have since updated to v. 4.03 and have no problems with it either.

This is a design problem they admit they don't have the answer to! You should only get the error on the first boot after installing the software. Once it boots, the registry is synced and you shouldn't see the error on boot again--until the next .dat update. :)
