Master Restore on Packard Bell

I'm trying to restore my Packard Bell to the original configuration using the Master Restore Diskette. I will insert the floppy and boot up my system, the computer will read the floppy and then prompt me to insert the CD and press a key. As soon as I press a key a message indicating the CD cannot be read will flash and the screen will go black. I have downloaded the latest version of the diskette from the PB site, but this did not help. I can read the contents of the CD when I look at it through "My Computer". Can anyone help me with this?

I had the same problem with a few system. The only way around it is to call packard bell and get a new key. They ship some with the wrong key. Make sure you have your 84# number start with an 84 usualy located on the back of your machine.

Good Luck

Junk it and buy a new PC. Packard Bells aren't worth a S........! They ship the wrong masters (purposely probably)and they use reconditioned parts. There is a site called Packard Bell Hell. You ought to check it out! And this comes from experience with PB's, not only with me, but other people I know.

Guess what - my master recovery disks will not work either - PB tech says I have a faulty cd rom drive (after having me wipe out my hard drive) They need to go back to McDonald's or Burger King or wherever they worked before. I think it's a scam to get you to spend $$$ on new master recovery disks

Reformat the hard drive by using a Windows 95 or 98 startup diskette floppy. At the A:/ prompt, type Format c:/s (This will clear the entire C:/ hard drive so save any files if you can. After the startup windows diskette formats the hard drive, shut off computer, insert the restore floppy diskette and the CD master cd. Turn on your computer and you should have the restore program come up. Reinstall windows off of this cd.

No special key, code, or replacing of CD rom necessary because if these people knew how to use F-Disk, then they would not be blaming their lack of knowledge on Packard Bell.
