hi all,
im trying to map my server by assigning drive M and it says "invalid drive specification.".drives that are only valid for me to map are drive D&E only but the rest drives from F-Z are invalid drive. pls help me to use the rest of my drives.
thanks,
deepeyes

It sounds like you're not putting the path in correctly.
How exactly are you trying to map the drive?
Soylent Green is PEOPLE!!!

My memory is failing me, but there is a dos command to limit the number of drive addresses that are available. Check the config.sys and autoexec.bat files for that command and delete it. I think it might be something like 'Lastdrive=x'.

I have Win98SE, no lastdrive in config.sys, I don't map drives but have set use statements in bat files to attach drives. I use letters M to X to attach drives/partitions on other computers.

Jennifer SUMN:
heres how i map:
Drive: M
Path: \\192.168.0.1\server.
*i guess i this was correct path specification.ham30:
i already checked the config.sys and autoexec.bat files. i tried to put a remarks(rem) in all lines in config.sys and autoexec.bat (in short files were empty) but it doesnt help.wizzard-fred:
how would you did that to works.i realy wanted to map the server using drive M coz it is useful with my program.
need lots of idea pls..
thanks much..

hi all;
heres the exact error:
""the following error occured while trying to connect M: \\192.168.0.1\server
Invalid local drive ""hope this would help in finding out the solution.
thanks
deepeyed

My net attach statement
net use m: \\hp667\d
hp667 is the name of my shared computer (file server)
d is the shared drive (nothing fancy, since I may have more than one shared computer on the network at a time.)I only attach the drives needed for the current session and detach them when finished.
