I'm running Windows 98SE on a Gateway machine. Everytime windows boots up I get a mess of connection dialog boxes popping up. If I hit cancel they stop coming up, if not I've counted at least 20 of them coming up and then I cancelled because I was tired of looking at them. They would have kept coming up.

I look in the Start folder and windows ini files and found nothing pertaining to a dial up connection. I looked in config.sys and autoexe.bat and nothing. Then I looked under msconfig and found no referance to why they might be coming up. I recently installed a dial up to my work but I can't see where this would have caused a problem.

Any help would be greatly appreciated,
Thanks Mike

Right click network neighborhood and see if you have multiple dial-up adapters. Also double-click my computer, then dialup networking to see how many connections you have. Look in the start menu (program drop down). Press start, run, type "msconfig" and check the startup tab. These things can often happen after downloading "free" internet connection software. These free connections can be very unfriendly and very virus-like.

Are u using some client-server applications? It may use the TCP/IP protocol. Go to INternet Options in Control Panel, check your setting under Connection. Try to use "Dial whenever a Network Connection is not present" or "Never dial a Connection".
