Like most of us I am fed up of junk mail and thought I would install mailwasher. I have 2 questions.

1. If I use Mailwasher to bounce these emails, how likely is it that my address will eventually get dropped from their lists?

2. I have tried installing it but it says it needs me to install winsock 2. Bit nervous about doing this, as don't want to upset any other application. Is it ok to do so ?

Might just stick with deleting emails.

I have the free and pro version of Mailwasher. I like using it.

On a global scale spam is counterproductive to me as a non-commercial user. It clogs up the network.

Bouncing emails only adds more unwanted congestion to the network.

Why I like Mailwasher:
I can check for email in about 3-4 seconds whereas it takes over ten seconds just to open Outlook. So, Mailwasher is much faster in checking the mail. If I have no mail at that point I am done.

If I do have mail then it does 'screen' it for me and I can then delete any undesireables before I ever download it to my PC.

If I do see a consistant spam sender address then I will use the Bounce feature in hopes that I will get dropped from their list. In these scenarios I believe I do get dropped.

The addresses that change (spoofed) everytime that send out the same subject line is better to simply delete the message.

I was never asked for winsock2 so I must already have it and it does not hurt.

I'm also using Mailwasher. I bounce and delete any email I do not recognise. I was getting a tremendous amount of spam before using it but that has decreased to a trickle. Installing Winsock 2 is no problem. It's a free download from Microsoft. It installs in a few seconds and you are not aware that anything has happened except that your web communications may speed up a little. What it does do is to reset any changes you may have made with speedup programs as it resets things like MTU back to the defaults. If you haven't used speedup programs you won't notice any difference.
