My modem is driving me nuts! It will work fine until I shut down my computer. then when I reboot and try to dial-up I get "Modem is not responding". I then have to remove the modem, restart, and reinstall it. At that point it works again. I have no problems with it until I turn off my computer again.

I did try updating my modem drivers but it made no diffrence.

Did yo try deleting it in device manager first, before you re-installed it?

Hi,

Also check in control panel, under Modems..Is it listed, or do you have others listed also?
And check your com port diagnostics, to see if it's listed there...

It is my only listed modem. Right now it's listed everywhere you mentioned. I'll try my regular routine of removing it and reboot and see if it is removing it everywhere.

Automatically detect settings is already unchecked.

After removing the modem, it was no longer listed in any of the placed you mentioned to check.

Hi,

Is this a card or onboard modem..?
Card:- Remove and re set in card holder..
Onboard:- Re-install mobo disk, to reinstall drivers..
I didn't really understand, when you said( I then have to remove the modem, restart, and reinstall it.)

Ok, I have made some kind of progress. When I run modem Diagnostics after rebooting the computer, without removing (uninstalling) the modem first. I get "Port already open". I checked the task manager and nothing seems to be using the modem. Also, I do disconnect from the internet before rebooting.

This is a laptop (Dell Inspiron 7000) and the modem is internal. I am laptop (hardware)ignorant and am not sure how to re set the modem, (I'm not even sure if it is a card or onboard)

Well thanks for your help. I feel like I at least know where to begin with the port staying open. Maybe I'll figure it out on my own now. :)

Hi Carla

Run MSCONFIG, and see if you have RNAAPP.exe in the list of startup programs.
If you have, uncheck it.
This may be what is causing the "port already open" error.

Good luck

From my experience with the LT Win, it only likes the IRQ Com3. If something else is using it that may be why it is doing what it is. Try disabling what ever is using Com3, then let the LT Win use Com3. The left over device is usually not that picky and will take what ever is left, but the LT WIN is very picky and only likes to work on Com3. I have 3 or 4 of them here now and have come across this problem on many computers I worked on.
