I need to print from a dos application that can only print to lpt1, across a network. Therefore need to map the remote printer to lpt1. But still want a printer on this home machine how can I configure the single lpt port on the home machine in win98 to lpt2. I have set it up in the bios as lpt2 but windows still finds it as lpt1.
I am sorry to tell you this but until you install a second parellel port(LPT port) you are going to have this problem. I have installed a few of them. One by email. It is a simple card you can buy. Providing you have an availible ISA slot. That is where they usually go. Just go to your local computer shop and tell them that you want to purchase a "bi-directional" parellel port. Take it home and install it. Windows 98 sees it right away and install the standard system drivers for it, but windows 95 is not so smart. It took me 4 hours to configure the first one I put in. We needed them because our scanners did not like talking to the computer with the printer in the way. If you want more help on this please email me and I will do all I can to help you.
