I have lost some vxd files in vmm32 and windows wont load, i can get copies of the files on floppy, is it possible to insert them without loading windows. I have no experience with DOS, hoping I dont have to re-format.

Sorry, I don't think that there is any way to insert DLL files into vmm32.vxd. vmm32.vxd is built up by windows during the install process. If vmm32.vxd is truly corrupted, it normally means that you need to do an install. It's not necessary to format. Just do an install `on top' and you can save all your data and programs.

There is a vmm32 directory in the windows\system directory. It shouldn't be a problem to copy missing files back into it--if you know what is missing. Mine has these 4 files in it:
Ifsmgr.vxd Ios.vxd Qemmfix.vxd Vtdapi.vxd
I believe the first 3 are deposited there during a standard windows installation. The fourth was probably added from some software installation.
If it's the file vmm32.vxd that's missing, then as fred said, you'll probably need to reinstall windows.
Summary: I wanted to know if someone could send me the seven vxd files that win98 doesnt install. I have lost my win98 CD and have looked all over the internet for them but could not find them....
